This week’s Sassy Fashionista is all my new lovely and appropriately named Juliet Kimono purchased during a recent in-person Free People trip. It sells for $78.
If you read the comments about it online, you’ll find that this romantic piece isn’t for everyone. You need to be comfortable making it worth. In short, you need to wear it, not the other way around. Some people can’t see past this challenge. I get it.
When I first bought the piece in ivory a few weeks ago, I couldn’t quite figure out how to wear it myself, and I quickly returned it. But I had a second thoughts and repurchased it. For me, the challenge came because there’s only a top tie and the blouse doesn’t close completely further down. It does make the fit a bit awkward.
As I played with it more, I found it to be a simple, lovely and poetic blouse (not sure about calling it a kimono) that I can now wear two ways. Either completely untied as a nice light coverup flowing in the breeze on a slightly chilly summer day, or as a dress, IF I add a small hook to the spot where the second tie lies on the front. I plan to do that. It is sheer. So, to make that option work, you will need to wear a slip or other clothing underneath.
Once I played around with it and discovered what was truly unique about this kimono, including the beautiful drape on the long arms (not for everyone), I kind of fell in love with it and ended up adding the lovely blue shade and also the tan shade seen here. One I believe will work well with earthy fall colors and tall leather boots. It’s my alternative to a sweater or blazer right now while it’s still so stinkin’ sultry.
I love the big, gold heart necklace I scored for a deal at T.J. Maxx. It adds just the right amount of accessory bling.
When I wear this piece, I feel slightly gypsy like and a little extra Sassy. Maybe even a bit like one of my favorite songbirds, Stevie Nicks. I’ve already gotten several compliments when I’ve worn it in public, especially in the blue shade.
An unusual and unexpected purchase for sure. I took a fashion chance. So far, so good! Drop the fashion mic.
Would you add this piece to your wardrobe? How would you wear it?
