Step two in my efforts to move my 2025 Spring/Summer Garden Moments forward, in spite of on-going frigid weather, was to refresh my window boxes.

Last year, I added mini Arborvitae for the first time to all my boxes. I loved the look, including from inside my house looking out, and I found them easier to care for than flowers, especially as we traveled a lot last year. Less water equaled less worry and waste, and more trouble-free year-round greenery. And at $9.99 a plant, they are also pretty cost effective for the immense joy they bring me all year long.

Unfortunately, the harsh and unpredictable winter weather of 2024 took a toll on the Arbs. Many of them did not survive. So one of my first garden duties this year was to replace all the sweet babies that had passed.

Since I didn’t have to wait until snow and frost were no longer a planting issue, I put this job high on the outdoor sprucing-up list.

So glad I did.

This year’s crop, which I grabbed quickly before they sold out, are lush, a bit taller, and the perfect, magic shade of deep green. It felt so good to get this green reboot done. I immediately went indoors to look out the window at the refresh, and I smiled.

Just another satisfying early spring Garden Moment’s fix.

I’ll take it. I’m incredibly grateful to be back digging in the dirt again. Winter was hard. But we survived again.

More sweet messes now to come. Big garden yippee!!!

Have you done any outdoor gardening, yet?
