Today is World Spina Bifida Day, an annual day of increased awareness of this lifelong disability, a neural-tube diagnosis that affects the spine and spinal cord.
Less than 20,000 cases are diagnosed per year in the United States for this disorder present at birth. The color yellow is used to signify this special monthly recognition.
You can find out more about this month’s celebration, the push for increased awareness, and valuable family resources at Spina Bifida Association – Research, Advocacy, Education, and Support.
While October is Spina Bifida Awareness Month, let’s work to increase greater acceptance & support for this and other disabilities all year long.
Knowledge is power.
